Front end motors are easily damaged in a crash because they usually bear the brunt of the impact. Aft motors are well protected, especially when the aircraft nose is made of high impact absorbent plastic.

A gyro is helpful to roll stabilize a slow flying jet because increased and rapid aileron deflections are needed to compensate for the lower airflow over the control surfaces. It's especially noticable when launching and with slow approach landings. A gyro will also provide additional stability on breezy days.
